Traditional Marriage, Part-Time Adultery

Traditional Marrriage, Part-Time Adultery
Congressman Mark Souder (R, IN-3) thinks your bedroom behavior may be a threat to the Republic, but is careful to note that his own admitted adultery was only with a part-time staff member. Since his subordinate was only part-time, perhaps that makes it “adultery lite.”

It was traditional adultery, of course, the heterosexual kind. Mr. Souder and his staffer are married, just not to each other.

“I sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff,” said the 59-year-old grandfather. “In the poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., any personal failing is seized upon and twisted for political gain. I am resigning rather than put my family through a painful drawn out process.” He is expected to formally submit his resignation on Friday.

Rep. Souder used his chairmanship of the Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources to commission a report extolling the alleged effectiveness of “abstinence-only” sex education. If he had chaired an environmental committee, no doubt, he would have reported on the ecological hazards of spilling seed upon the ground.

Mr. Souder resigned today after his affair with “part-time” staff member Tracy Jackson became known. Ms. Jackson, the Congressman’s “Special Assistant/Communications” since 2004, discusses the benefits of  abstinence-only sex education with him in this video:

    Updates:

The Washington Post‘s Dana Milbanck observes that “… millions of people live in the Washington area, and relatively few of us have adulterous relationships with married subordinates we have hired to assist us in broadcasts for Christian media outlets. That, and not this town’s ‘poisonous environment,’ is why Souder is resigning.”

“Souder Blames DC For Sexual Misconduct,” Jason Linkins, HuffingtonPost.
