Mike Raffone is among the baffled, too. Curling was a demonstration sport at several early winter meets but became an official sport in 1998 at the XVIII Olympic Winter Games in Nagano. The sport drives crowds wild, so the IOC brought in snowboarding and hot-dog skiing to calm things down.
