Romney’s Binders

April 24, 2017

Romney's Binders
Remember back in 2012 when Mitt Romney responded to comments about his campaign’s lack of gender diversity by claiming he had “binders full of women“? He really did.

“The Boston Globe recently reported that it had obtained the files — which were indeed literal three-ring binders full of cover letters and résumés — by way of an unnamed former Romney aide.

The binders weighed in ‘at an aggregate 15 pounds, 6 ounces,’ according to the Globe.

At the time, Romney’s remark came across as patronizing, a reflection of his awkward and detached public persona at its most visible.”

Gender Pay Gap To Be Closed in Only 170 Years

Women are expected to earn as much as men as early as January 2196, reports the World Economic Forum. WEF is the organization behind that annual gathering of radical populists at Davos.

The global gender pay gap has widened since 2015, when it was expected to close in 118 years. The United States has fallen in the rankings in the past year, from 23rd to 45th place in gender wage equality.

Nasty Woman Is Winning Bigly

October 21, 2016

Nasty Woman is Winning Bigly

“Nasty woman.” — Donald J. Trump, October 19, 2016, Las Vegas

That was the most coherent statement made by the Republican presidential candidate at Wednesday’s pseudo-debate, the last such spectacle before Election Day ( vote on November 8th for Clinton, November 28th for Trump).

Within an hour of Mr. Trump’s comment, a quarter of a million tweets mentioned it, as women everywhere embraced “nasty woman” as a rallying cry for Clinton. Bigly.

More:

“‘Nasty woman is probably the coolest thing Hillary has ever been called,'” Fred Barbash, Washington Post

“’Nasty woman’ becomes the feminist rallying cry Hillary Clinton was waiting for,” Liz Plank, Vox

“‘Nasty woman’: Trump’s insult unites women across social media,” Martha Ross, Mercury News

“For Trump, the Election Is Rigged If a ‘Nasty Woman’ Can Win,” Amy Davidson, The New Yorker

Trump Grabs GOP By the Short Hairs

October 11, 2016

Trump Grabs GOP By the Short Hairs
Last weekend, serial adulterer and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump grabbed the Republican Party by the pussy after a videotape of him boasting about sexually assaulting women became public. Republican candidates for other offices had accepted Mr. Trump’s repeated racist and xenophobic statements, but they divorced The Donald when they saw him say “pussy” on television. In the spirit of statesmanship, Mr. Trump has promised those fellow Republicans that he will rain down hell on them.

During Sunday’s Town Hall Talk-a-thon, Donald Trump had a simple explanation for why his treatment of women doesn’t disprove his fitness for office: Bill Clinton screwed around even more.

Women: Stuck in Traffic

September 30, 2016

Women: Stuck in Traffic

The highway is a gendered place, and women pay the biggest price for road congestion.

“Traffic increased a great deal when women moved into the labor force. But this is not exactly what accounts for the gender gap. In the 1950s, car trips that were work-related accounted for about 40 percent of all car use. Today that number is less than 16 percent. The vast majority of car trips are made for various errands: taking children to school, picking up groceries, eating out, going to or from daycare, shopping, and more shopping. And it’s women who are making most of these trips. It’s a less acknowledged portion of the ‘second shift,’ which typically highlights women’s disproportionate contribution to the division of labor inside the household even when they are working outside of the household as well.”

— “Contrary to Stereotypes, Women Lose More Time in Traffic Than Men,” Tristan Bridges, Pacific Standard
