The Trump Coup: It’s Coming From Inside the House! And Senate.

The Trump Coup: It's Coming From Inside the House! And Senate.

Clearly, the chief instigator of the rioting mob that broke into the U.S. Capitol was one Donald John Trump, who summoned the mob with a December 20th tweet (“Big protest in DC on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!”) and gave them their marching orders on the day of the insurrection, inciting the riot.

It’s Coming From Inside the House! And Senate.

Terrorist Trump had allies, and some of them were already inside the Capitol, blocking the purely ceremonial recognition of the presidential election results, a rite required by the Constitution, which usually takes two hours. The falsehood-spewing, Trump-abetting obstructionists seeking to overturn the will of the electorate, all Republican members of the Senate and House, helped incite the MAGA mobs. Their names can be found here. Chief among them were Senators Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz, who used their unconstitutional, unconscionable ploy to send out fundraising emails at the very time mobs were vandalizing the Capitol building.

While some of these congressional coup plotters have already faced loss of political donors and publishing contracts, Congress itself needs to act. Tepid measures like censure seem inadequate; perhaps expulsion under Article I, Section 5, clause 2 of the Constitution, expulsion from the Senate and House, should be invoked, since precedents have concerned disloyalty to the United States and its Constitution.

But of course, of these 147 insurrectionists, all but two (Byron Donalds and Burgess Owens) are White, so they may escape any punishment whatsoever, just like all but a handful of the Capitol-desecrating MAGA mob and its Instigator-in Chief.

Ted Cruz and the Space Pirates!

May 17, 2019

Ted Cruz and the Space Pirates!

Shiver me timbers, matey! Senator Ted Cruz says we need a Space Force to protect us from space pirates:

“Since the ancient Greeks first put to sea, nations have recognized the necessity of naval forces and maintaining a superior capability to protect waterborne travel and commerce from bad actors. Pirates threaten the open seas, and the same is possible in space. In this same way, I believe we too must now recognize the necessity of a Space Force to defend the nation and to protect space commerce and civil space exploration.”

The CBO says the initial bill to launch the Trump Space Force is $2 billion of your tax dollars, but independent estimates rocket start-up costs closer to $5 billion. Maybe we could defray the expense by licencing the film rights to Netflix. After all, the Cruz space pirate plot treatment is sure getting lots of buzz on Twitter.

Beto’s Beefed-Up Texas Campaign

October 19, 2018

Beto's Beefed-Up Texas Campaign

Back in August, Ted Cruz spokesperson Emily Miller called his Democratic political opponent Beto O’Rourke “a Triple Meat Whataburger liberal who is out of touch with Texas values.” The beef (ahem) started when the Fort Worth Star-Telegram claimed the O’Rouke logo looks like a Whataburger Spicy Ketchup packet.

Unlike Emily Miller (Baltimore) and Ted Cruz (Canada!), Whataburger and Beto O’Rourke were both born in Texas. So was film director Richard Linklater (BoyhoodDazed and ConfusedSlacker), who calls out Mr. Cruz for his distinctly un-Texan affection for White Castle sliders:

Cruz vs. Beto: The Beef

In what may be the most Texan comment in this year’s Senate race between incumbent Ted Cruz and Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke, Cruz spokesperson Emily Miller called Beto “a Triple Meat Whataburger liberal who is out of touch with Texas values.” The beef (ahem) started when the Fort Worth Star-Telegram claimed the O’Rouke logo looks like a Whataburger Spicy Ketchup packet.

Note: Unlike Emily Miller (Baltimore) and Ted Cruz (Canada!), Whataburger and Beto O’Rourke were both born in Texas.

Ted Cruz: Profile in Courage

October 3, 2016

Ted Cruz: Profile in Courage
Before the GOP Convention, Donald Trump claimed Ted Cruz’s father killed JFK, and that Mrs. Cruz is a crook. Senator Cruz called Trump a “pathological liar,” a “braggadocious, arrogant buffoon,” a “serial philanderer” and “sniveling coward” who is “utterly amoral” and unfit to be president.

In July, at the GOP Convention, Ted Cruz told delegates “Vote your conscience.” But, as we learned back in 2013 when he shut down the government, Mr. Cruz has no conscience himself. He confirmed that judgement by endorsing Donald Trump for president two weeks ago.

No surprises here. At least Ted taught Mr. Trump a 4-syllable word, “braggadocious.”

Christian Soldier Cruz Vanquished in Indiana

May 4, 2016

Christian Soldier Ted Cruz Vanquished In Indiana

Freshman Senator Ted Cruz has withdrawn from his crusade for the Republican presidential nomination after his defeat on the bloody battlefield of Indiana. “We left it all on the field,” said Mr. Cruz, after his drubbing from the steak-chomping, golf-club wielding, thrice-married Trump Creature. After a well-deserved rest, Mr. Cruz will resume the holy crusade during his grueling 3-day Senate work week.

Boehner Called Cruz ‘Lucifer’ and Satanists Are Mad as Hell

April 29, 2016

Boehner Called Cruz 'Lucifer' and Satanists Are Mad as Hell

Former House Speaker John Boehner called GOP candidate Ted Cruz “Lucifer in the flesh” Wednesday night. Senator Cruz took it pretty well, but not Satanic Temple spokesman Lucien Greaves:

“It grows tedious when pedophile priests and loathsome politicians are conveniently dismissed as Satanic, even as they spew biblical verse and prostrate themselves before the cross, recruiting the Christian faithful. Satanists will have nothing to do with any of them.”

“Satanists are furious that Boehner compared Ted Cruz to the Dark Lord,” Bethania Palma Markus, Raw Story

“Satanists balk at Cruz comparison,” Mark Hensch, The Hill

“An exorcist told us how to rid Ted Cruz of Lucifer, just in case John Boehner is right,” Philip Bump, Washington Post

GOP Debate: 3-Way Race to the Bottom

February 25, 2016

GOP Debate: 3-Way Race to the Bottom
Remaining Republican Party presidential candidates will mouth off face off this evening in Texas at the Houston Fat Stock Show University of Houston at 7:30 PM Central (8:30 PM ET). Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz will get down in the mud with TV reality star, wrestling promoter, and frontrunner Donald J. Trump and grapple for the heavyweight GOP champeen belt. Comic relief will be provided by Governor John Kasich and hibernating retired surgeon Ben Carson. Sit down with some popcorn and watch on CNN, Telemundo, or CNN.com.

Marco Rubio has to score in tonight’s debate to get more voter attention. Conventional wisdom says a big loss in next week’s “Super Tuesday” primaries may be the swan song for Senator Rubio. Fittingly, tonight’s debate will be held in the UH Moore Opera House.

Ted Cruz Vanquishes New York Values in Iowa

Ted Cruz Vanquishes New York Values in Iowa
In the Republican melee in Iowa yesterday, Holy Warrior Ted Cruz drew first blood, besting Plumed Knight Donald Trump, with Marco Rubio nipping at Mr. Trump’s rump. “New York values” didn’t play so well in farm country.

“Fighting Preacher” Mike Huckabee has withdrawn from the field of battle, and Doctor Ben Carson is missing in action after looking for a laudromat. The surviving GOP combatants move their conflict east to New Hampshire next week.
