Athletic Enhancement

Victor Conte of Balco, admitted supplier of anabolic steroids to pro athletes:

“Steroids can help a female sprinter to lower her 100m time by about four-tenths of a second or four metres faster. The effects of steroids upon male 100m sprinters are about two-tenths of a second or two metres faster.”

Perhaps. But what about genetic enhancement?

A-Rod's A-Pology

The highest-paid player in Major League Baseball, Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees, admitted to Sports Illustrated that he used steroids in while with the Texas Rangers, despite his previous denials.  The magazine had determined that Mr. Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in 2003 but was never disciplined.

The millionaire Yankee slugger repeated this admission of illegal drug use in a televised interview with ESPN’s Peter Gammons, adding that he was very, very, sorry.

As Rob Neyer observes, “”A-Rod is sorry — sorry he got caught.”
