Delta Kappa Epsilon: White Male Rage at Yale

October 9, 2018

Richard Mosse explored “a performance of masculinity and élite-white-male rage” at the Yale’s DKE fraternity chapter in this 2007 grad student video. You may recall that newly crowned Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh is a Yale Deke.

More Proof: Trump Is Scared Of Strong Women

June 30, 2017

More Proof: Trump Is Scared Of Strong Women
On Thursday, for some unknown reason, the president of the United States began attacking a couple of cable news hosts on Twitter. The rants have been personal rather than political, particularly aimed at the physical appearance and intellect of MSNBC commentator Mika Brzezinski.

Ms. Brzezinski returned to MSBNC Friday morning, commenting “I’m fine. My family brought me up really tough. This is absolutely nothing — for me, personally. But I am very concerned as to what this once again reveals about the President of the United States. It’s strange.”

“I was like, this has to be a joke,” added her co-host Joe Scarborough. “The President of the United States, as bad as he’s been in the past, he really hasn’t gone over the cliff. And then, unfortunately, we learned what we’ve always learned; and that is that he, for some reason, takes things so much more personally with women. He’s so much more vicious with women.” “For some reason, he always goes after Mika, and it’s always personal with Mika. He attacks women because he fears women.”

In a Washington Post op-ed on Friday, Brzezinski and Scarborough addressed Donald Trump’s “continued mistreatment of women”:

“It is disturbing that the president of the United States keeps up his unrelenting assault on women. From his menstruation musings about Megyn Kelly, to his fat-shaming treatment of a former Miss Universe, to his braggadocio claims about grabbing women’s genitalia, the 45th president is setting the poorest of standards for our children. We were heartened to hear a number of Republican lawmakers call out Mr. Trump for his offensive words and can only hope that the women who are closest to him [i.e. Ivanka and Melania] will follow their examples. It would be the height of hypocrisy to claim the mantle of women’s empowerment while allowing a family member to continue such abusive conduct.”

— “Donald Trump is not well,” Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, Washington Post

In case you forgot, First Lady Melania Trump has campaigned against cyberbullying.

“Trump loves attacking women’s looks. And America rewards him for it,” Arwa Mahdawi, The Guardian

Alt-Right’s Bannon Ousted From National Security Council

April 5, 2017

Alt-Right's Bannon Ousted From National Security Council

Far-Right culture warrior Steve Bannon was bounced off the National Security Council yesterday as national intelligence director Dan Coats and Joint Chiefs chair General Joseph Dunford were to rejoin the grownups on the NSC principals committee. One rumor says Mr. Bannon was only on the NSC to babysit fellow lunatic Michael Flynn, who has since resigned. This move probably means a cleansing apocalyptic nuclear war is less likely the top US security strategy.

General H.R. McMaster, who replaced Mr. Flynn as national security adviser, is said to be behind the change. In a more puzzling move, two former Republican governors with no defense or foreign relations experience, U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and Energy Secretary Rick Perry, were added to the principals committee. A sobering thought: Mr. Perry, who wanted to abolish the department he now heads, is in charge of the country’s nuclear arsenal.

Mr. Bannon still skulks through the corridors of power and may head a shady outfit called the Strategic Initiatives Group.

Redskins Cheerleaders

April 7, 2012

Redskins Cheerleaders

NFL cheerleader tryout finals were held at the State Theatre in Falls Church, Virginia today. You may be thinking “Hey! Falls Church doesn’t HAVE an NFL team,” and you’re right. The team in question has “Washington” in its name, right before a racial slur, but it practices in Virginia and plays in Maryland.

Anyway, NFL cheerleaders are picked for their athletic skills dance talent personalities and pom-pom prowess. They’re all about the same height, too. But don’t think pro sports cheerleaders are dumb; many are scientists and engineers. Need empirical proof? Observe this demonstration of classical mechanics:

New Model Year at the Auto Show

January 29, 2012

New Model Year at the Auto Show

It’s that that time again. Gleaming new automobiles are being previewed at auto shows, and pretty young girls are leaning on them. This symbolism sends messages you won’t find in manufacturers’ specifications. Men: buy this car, get that girl. Women: buy this car, be that girl.

Back in the last century, when the USA manufactured real products instead of just bad business deals, the auto show circuit started in Detroit, the Motor City, and fanned out around the country. Today the auto industry is globalized, and so is the car show circuit. The U.S. may not sell many American cars abroad, but the Girls-Leaning-on-Cars concept is a hot export. Compare the ladies of the Detroit, Delhi, Tokyo, Geneva, Guangzhou, and Qatar auto shows.

The meme has permeated all levels of American culture. See selected Flickr images from family photos, movie mags, and amateur hot rod shows in these galleries.
