Mick Jagger, Other Senior Citizens Begin World Tour

The Rolling Stones began their 50th anniversary tour with the biggest possible bang on Sunday night, as a host of special guests joined them for a hit-packed show in London’s O2 Arena. Former Stones comrades Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor returned to the ranks, while Mary J. Blige and Jeff Beck were also on hand to help with the celebrations.

Rolling Stons 50th Anniversary

On July 12, 1962 a band of youngsters played its first gig at London’s Marquee Club on Oxford Street. The band was named after a song by Muddy Waters. It was called the Rolling Stones.

The Marquee Club was located in the basement of the Academy movie theater. The film that night: “The Day of the Triffids.”

Girls Rock! DC
The sound! The fury! The Silly Bandz®! It’s the 4rd Annual Girls Rock! DC Camper Showcase this Saturday morning at the world-famous 9:30 Club. Doors open at 10:30 AM.

Each summer, Girls Rock! DC volunteers teach girls (ages 8-18) Rock and Hip-Hop music skills in an intensive week-long summer camp. At Saturday’s concert, girl bands and DJs will perform their original tunes for the cheering crowd. Much better than watching those same old Saturday morning cartoons.

“Rolling Stone Readers Pick the Top Ten Bassists of All Time.” See it here, with video clips.

Rolling Stone asked readers to vote on the top ten bass players of all time, and the results demonstrate the weakness of the “crowdsourcing” concept. Even limiting the selection to Rock/Pop/R&B players of the electric bass, a list without James Jamerson, Bootsy Collins, Leland Sklar, or Bob Babbitt simply cannot be taken seriously.
