Southern Socialites’ Alternative History Campaign

August 17, 2020

The United Daughters of the Confederacy pushed the “Lost Cause” movement, revising history to reinterpret the South after the American Civil War. These women from elite antebellum families used their social, financial,  and political clout to pressure local governments to erect monuments to Confederate heroes. They formed textbook review committees to determine what Southern schoolchildren learned about the war, indoctinating children about the Confederate cause, ensuring that generations grew up as segregationists. Jared Kushner: Trump Coronavirus Policy a ‘Great Success’

Jared Kushner: Trump Coronavirus Policy a 'Great Success'

Secretary of Slim Suits, Trump son-in-law, and Senior Advisor to the President Jared Kushner, fresh from bringing peace to the Middle East, is now running a shadow task force on COVID-19. Yesterday, the day when U.S. coronavirus deaths exceeded the number of Americans killed during the entire Vietnam Conflict, he called the Trump Administration’s coronavirus response “a great success story” on MAGA-friendly Fox & Friends.

“I think that we’ve achieved all the different milestones that are needed. So the government, federal government, rose to the challenge and this is a great success story. I think that’s really what needs to be told.”

Mr. Kushner, whose shadow task force is composed of fellow coronavirus profiteers, was the genius who told President Trump that COVID-19 was nothing to worry about, resulting in federal government inaction during January and February, when intervention would have saved thousands of lives.

Arizona Vies With Texas in Ignorance Race

Arizona Vies with Texas in Ignorance Race

The Texas Education Board removed Thomas Jefferson and Darwin from school textbooks so, in the great race to the bottom, those competitive Arizona Republicans passed a new law banning Ethnic Studies programs in the state’s schools.

“So the complaint is that ethnic studies in general, and Chicano studies in particular, teach hate,” explains Salon’s Gabriel Winant:

“In a moment of truly dazzling irony, Horne {Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne] said, ‘It’s just like the old South, and it’s long past time that we prohibited it.’

The logic seems to be that any time brown folks get together in groups to talk about their identity and history, they must be plotting against white people. Maybe something here sounds like the old South, but I don’t think it’s the students and teachers.”
