Doral Golf: Trump Whiffs on G7

Doral Golf: Trump Whiffs on G7

U.S. President, hotelier, and celebrity golf cheat Donald Trump wanted the 2020 G7 meeting held at the Trump National Doral resort in Florida, but it’s not happening. For some reason people thought holding the June meeting at Trump-owned Doral (“Come for the golf, stay for the Zika“) reeked of self-dealing just because it certainly does. It would also violate the Constitution.

Mr. Trump may think the “G” in G7 stands for “golf,” but it’s the Group of Seven finance summit. Speaking of finance, the Doral could have used the money. During the Trump presidency its net operating income fell 69%, and the Doral’s debts are international, since it was financed through loans from Deutsche Bank. The president nixed consideration of the enviroment during the 2020 G7 meeting, but there’s an environmental issue at Doral. The swimming pools haven’t been inspected in the past year.

The G7 Summit May Meet at Trump's Doral Golf Club

President Trump wants the 2020 G7 meeting to take place at the Trump National Doral resort in Florida. He might think the “G” stands for “golf,” but it’s the Group of Seven finance summit. Speaking of finance, the Doral could use the money. During the Trump presidency its net operating income fell 69%. And the Doral’s debts are international, since it was financed through loans from Deutsche Bank. Note to finance ministers: the swimming pools haven’t been inspected in the past year.

Florida: Biggest Health Care Fraud Ever

April 12, 2019

Florida: Biggest Health Care Fraud Ever

A Federal jury has found Florida health care network owner Philip Esformes guilty of running an 18-year, $1.3 billion Medicare and Medicaid fraud scheme. He used some of the money to bribe the University of Pennsylvania basketball coach to get his son into Penn. If his son is pre-law, maybe the kid can help him with the fraud appeal.

Philip Esformes, a man of convictions. We reluctantly point out that this is the “largest health care fraud in U.S. history.” Every time we do that, some Florida Man is found pulling an even bigger scam.

Self-Driving Pizza

June 29, 2018

Self-Driving Pizza

Self-driving Domino’s Pizza vehicles now roam the streets of Miami:

“Consumers will soon be able to opt to order their pies, groceries, and on-demand rides to be conveyed via robot (with backup drivers behind the wheel in case of emergency). The county, meanwhile, hopes that the experiment can be a learning opportunity and a signal to other self-driving technology leaders.

‘We want to learn from Ford what it is we need to do to get ready for these vehicles, so that when AVs become a reality, fully, we’ll be one of the first communities to get them,’ said Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Giménez. ‘We want to let the world know that Miami is ready to be a testbed.’”
