Bummer, Dude: Surfer Magazine Wipes Out

Shake the sand out of your baggies, stow your boards, and pack up the woodie. After 60 years, Surfer magazine is ceasing publication. And just when climate change is making more monster waves, too. Observers say it’s the ebbing economics of the pandemic that helped end Surfer‘s epic ride.

More:

“Surfer magazine, iconic touchstone of Southern California beach culture, shuts down,” Mike Freeman and Gary Robbins, Los Angeles Times

“Iconic SURFER magazine publishes last issue after 60 years,” Martin Wisckol, Orange County Register

Cat Fancy Magazine ‘Put to Sleep’

December 22, 2014

Cat Fancy Magazine 'Put to Sleep'
After 49 years, Cat Fancy Magazine is no more. To put that in perspective, 49 years is 3 or 4 cat lifespans [insert ‘9 Lives‘ joke here].  Cat Fancy was known for beautiful feline photos and practical kitty-keeping advice and had many fans, including Ayn Rand. The magazine will be succeeded by something called “Catster.”

Jet

After 62 years, JET magazine is leaving the newsstand, ending its print edition, but it will continue in digital format. The compact print publication will be missed in neighborhood barbershops, salons, candy stores, at checkout counters, and everywhere people want a quick read. Scrolling through it on a cell phone just won’t be the same.

It’s Bittman vs Lady Gaga at Time Magazine

April 5, 2011

It's Bittman vs. Gaga at Time Magazine
Food writer Mark Bittman is pitted against Lady Gaga over at Time Magazine. No it’s not about her meat dress. They’re both finalists in the Time Top 100 Poll.

The online poll aims to determine the 100 most influential people of 2011. Every home cook in the known universe has a spattered copy of Bittman’s How to Cook Everything, and if that’s not influential, we don’t know what is.

Vote for Mark here – http://ti.me/fgtvDm
Select “Yes,” enter the word code and click on “submit.”

Pass it on. Right now Mark is ranked below Michael Vick but above John Boehner.
