Hey Kids, Crappy School Lunches Are Back!

May 2, 2017

Hey Kids, Crappy School Lunches Are Back!
On Monday, new Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue got right behind the plow to solve America’s most pressing food problem, the deadly plague of healthy school lunches. The Trump administration has decided that kids should eat the traditional salty slop of their obese, constipated seniors. Chocolate milk is back! Veggies? Gone. Whole grains? Gone. Take that, Michelle Obama!

Official USDA press release: “Ag Secretary Perdue Moves to Make School Meals Great Again.”

The Lunch Box of Priestess Henutmehyt

November 27, 2012

The Lunch Box of Priestess Henutmehyt

When Egyptian Priestess Henutmehyt packed it in circa 1250 B.C., she packed a lunch. A lunchbox found in Ms. Henutmehyt’s tomb contains four whole ducks and joints of goat meat (before you ask: no Twinkies). There wasn’t Saran Wrap or Tupperware back then, so the goodies were mummified, just like the lady herself.

Illegitimate Lunch

Illegitimate Lunch

The media are buzzing about remarks by Congressman Todd Akin (R, MO-2) on “Illegitimate Rape,” but few have noticed his comments on “Illegitimate Lunch.” Missouri Republican Akin, a member of the Tea Party Caucus and candidate for the U.S. Senate, recently repeated his belief that the federal government should not subsidize school lunches for poor children. He made these comments after a hearty meal at the 60th annual Governor’s Ham Breakfast at the Missouri State Fair.

Lunch

Lunch

150 years ago, lunch as we know it was invented in New York City. That’s what a new exhibit at the New York Public Library claims, anyway. The exhibit runs through February 17, 2013 but the online exhibit is pretty tasty, too, with more choices than a Horn & Hardart Automat.
