John Ensign Ethics Report: Hot Off the Press

John Ensign Ethics Report: Hot Off the Press

Adulterous Nevada Republican John Ensign resigned his U.S. Senate seat before the Senate Ethics Committee issued a report that would have led to his expulsion. The last time the U.S. Senate expelled a member: 1862.

The Ensign ethics report is out, so add it to your summer reading list. Some may think it’s not a romance novel, but Mr. Ensign’s web of deceit involved a long-term affair with His Neighbor’s Wife (an employee and spouse of an employee), which he covered up with hush money drawn from campaign funds.

John Ensign Breaks His Promise

 John Ensign Breaks His Promise

John Ensign, U.S. Senator from Nevada (“The Whores & Gambling State”) has announced his resignation from Congress, despite earlier promises to see out the remainder of his term. The Evangelical Christian Republican, a confessed adulterer who slept with His Neighbor’s Wife,  resigned to avoid an ethics investigation into the $96,000 payment of hush money he made to said Neighbor’s Wife, an employee and the wife of an employee.

Ensign Evicted From C Street?

Ensign Evicted From C Street?

Senator John Ensign (R-NV) is leaving his long-time DC digs at 133 C Street SE on Capitol Hill, where a conservative Christian cabal maintains rooms for powerful lawmakers (the building is registered as a church and pays no taxes). Is “the Fellowship” forcing Senator Ensign to leave his below-market bargain pied-à-terre?

No. The senator maintains he left on his own, to spare other house residents further negative publicity — as if he, Chip Pickering, and  Mark Sanford had never lived, loved, and prayed at C Street. It is true, though, that Mr. Ensign, an Evangelical, will probably have to face the glare of the Senate Ethics Committee to explain the pay-offs made to his mistress, Cynthia Hampton, by his father, gambling magnate Mike Ensign. There is also talk of a Justice Department inquiry.

John Ensign, Man of Integrity

John Ensign, U.S. Senator from Nevada (“The Whores & Gambling State”) washed up on the shores of Lake Tahoe this week. The Republican, who has confessed to a long affair where he slept with His Neighbor’s Wife (an employee and the wife of an employee), opined that he was better than former President Bill Clinton, who only got a quickie with an intern.

Honorary Adulterer Ensign

Honorary Adulterer Ensign

“I started Battle Born PAC in 2001 to help elect conservatives throughout the country …. I have launched the Battle Born website in order to engage with Republicans nationwide ….”
Senator John Ensign (R-NV).

Apparently engaging Thy Neighbor’s Wife to Commit Adultery doesn’t require a website, just a blind spot for two out of Ten Commandments (and Thou Shalt Not Steal looks a bit shaky, too).

On the Battle Born PAC website, Senator Ensign quotes the Chaplain of the U.S. Senate in speaking about the Battle Born crusade:

John Ensign, Promise Keeper

John Ensign, Promise Keeper

U.S. Senator John Ensign, the Republican guardian of America’s morals from Nevada (motto: “The Gambling & Whorehouse State”) has admitted to an extramarital affair with his campaign treasurer, Cynthia “Cindy” Hampton, a family friend and the wife of his administrative assistant, Douglas Hampton.

Senator Ensign is an active member of Promise Keepers®,  a Christian men’s fellowship (motto:” Men of Integrity”).

Central to Promise Keepers® membership is a pledge to keep the Seven Promises, among them:

PROMISE 3: A Promise Keeper is committed to practicing spiritual, moral, ethical, and sexual purity.

PROMISE 4:  A Promise Keeper is committed to building strong marriages and families through love, protection and biblical values.

Well … five out of seven ain’t bad.

Besides, Mr. Ensign got a 100% rating from the Christian Coalition on family issues and 100% ratings from the Family Research Council (“Defending Family, Faith, and Freedom”) and Donald Wildmon’s American Family Association.

“Marriage recognizes the ideal of a father and mother living together to raise their children. Marriage is the cornerstone on which our society was founded … It is not right to mold marriage to fit the desires of a few, against the wishes of so many, and to ignore the important role of marriage.”

— Senator John Ensign (R-NV), defending the Sanctity of Marriage Act on the Senate floor, 2004
