Kim Davis: Resurrection?

Kim Davis: Resurrection?

Intolerant Kentucky County Clerk Kimberly Jean Bailey Davis will be running for reelection in 2018. Ms. Davis was imprisoned in 2015 for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. She was sprung after a federal judge determined that her deputy clerks were doing the work she shirked, providing equal justice under the law by issuing civil marriage licenses to all couples. Ms. Davis’s unconstitutional stunt cost the State of Kentucky $224,000 in court costs.

Kim Davis believes in marriage so strongly she’s had four of them. Her twins, born five months after her divorce from her first husband, were sired by her third husband and adopted by her fourth husband, who was also her second husband.

And family values are what the Rowan County Clerk’s Office is all about. When she was elected in 2014, Kim Davis hired her son to work in her county government office, just like her own mother, Rowan County Clerk for 37 years, had hired her. If Mrs. Davis ever decides to abdicate, surely her son will inherit the family business.

Trump: Yes, It Is a Muslim Ban

June 6, 2017

Trump: Yes, It's a Muslim Ban
President Donald J. Trump commemorated Saturday’s tragedy in London by tweeting a renewed call to ban travel to the US from six predominantly Muslim countries. A second version of his presidential order (he now calls it “watered-down“) is headed to the Supreme Court, and this presidential tweetstorm may have doomed the administration’s case. Even Kellyanne Conway’s husband thinks so.

The Klan Backs Trump

March 1, 2016

The Klan Backs Trump
Republican presidential contender Donald Trump had already been endorsed by the white nationalist American Freedom Party, neo-nazi Daily Stormer, and white nationalist outfits including American Renaissance, Occidental Dissent, White Genocide Project, Council of Conservative Citizens, and the League of the South, but the racist endorsement that finally got the attention of the media — and rival GOP campaigns — was the endorsement of Trump’s candidacy by David Duke, former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. But Mr. Duke didn’t just endorse Donald Trump; he first did that last August.

Un-American. Unconstitutional. Unacceptable.

December 9, 2015

Un-American. Unconstitutional. Unacceptable.
Making people from a minority group wear identity badges, registering them in a database and tracking themDenying sanctuary to refugees due to their faith traditions and returning them to deadly war zones. Closing houses of worship. Barring valid travelers from entering this country due solely to their religion.

That’s not America.

A man who grew up across the street from his German-American immigrant grandmother should know better. Even one who is an egocentric, bigoted, billionaire bully.

Football Team Sends University of Missouri President to the Showers

Football Team Sends University of Missouri President to the Showers

In 1839, 176 years ago, the slave state of Missouri founded a university at Columbia, the first public institution of higher learning west of the Mississippi. In 1950, 65 years ago, the University of Missouri at Columbia admitted its first black student. Columbia is about 100 miles from Ferguson, so it is unsurprising that recent racial incidents on campus were of concern to many students and faculty members, especial if they are African American. What was surprising: Inaction on the part of University President Tim Wolfe.

Campus protests, begun in September, were met with administration lip-service. Last week a UM grad student went on a hunger strike. Nothing. On Saturday the University’s football team announced it wouldn’t practice or play for the rest of the season unless University President Wolfe resigned. On Monday morning he did.

The Mizzou Tigers play the BYU Cougars on Saturday, November 14th , 6:30 PM CST at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

The University of Missouri motto: Salus populi suprema lex esto, “Let the Welfare of the People be the Supreme Law.” Seems like it takes a concerned Southeastern Conference team of enforcers, though.

Saint Kim of Kentucky Rescued From the Dungeon!

Saint Kim of Kentucky Rescued From the Dungeon!

Free at last! Intolerant Rowan County Clerk Kimberly Jean Bailey Davis was sprung from Kentucky’s Carter County Detention Center on Tuesday. U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning determined that her deputy clerks were doing the work she shirked, providing equal justice under the law by issuing civil marriage licenses to all couples. The judge enjoined Mrs. Davis from preventing her deputies from performing her office’s official duties in issuing marriage licences to same-sex couples.

Mrs. Davis and her delusional lawyer claim that marriage licenses not issued by her are invalid. As Zack Ford points out, Kentucky statute 61.035 indicates otherwise: “Any duty enjoined by law or by the Rules of Civil Procedure upon a ministerial officer, and any act permitted to be done by him, may be performed by his lawful deputy.”

Martyr to the Cause of Intolerance

September 4, 2015

Martyr to the Cause of Intolerance
Rowan County Clerk Kimberly Jean Bailey Davis was led off by federal marshals, fingerprinted and photographed, and locked behind bars in the Carter County Detention Center in Grayson, Kentucky. Federal District Court Judge David L. Bunning found her in contempt for refusing his order to comply with the 14th Amendment and perform her sworn duty, issuing civil marriage licenses to same-sex couples. “Ms. Davis took an oath,” he said. “Oaths mean things.” She can get out when she agrees to provide equal protection under the law.

The judge chose not to fine Mrs. Davis, since her equally intolerant supporters would raise the money for her and she would feel no sense of compulsion to obey the law. Some Davis fans tried to set up a fundraising website for her, but GoFundMe’s policy forbids campaigns that aid any criminal defense. That doesn’t keep them from thinking of Kim Davis as the homophobe Rosa Parks, though.

Where Does Donald Trump Make his Suits? ¡Mexico!

Where Does Donald Trump Make His Suits? ¡Mexico!

“Donald Trump has had some nasty things to say about Mexicans lately. In the announcement of his 2016 bid for the US presidency, he called Mexican immigrants to the US criminals and “rapists.” Later, on Twitter, he added, “Mexico is not our friend. They’re killing us at the border and they’re killing us on jobs and trade.”

It seems to follow that Trump would disapprove of American companies manufacturing their goods in Mexico too, except that Trump apparently does it himself. A photo circulated on Twitter by BuzzFeed political reporter Adrian Carrasquillo shows a jacket from Trump’s clothing line bearing a ‘made in Mexico’ label.”

— “Guess where Mexico-bashing Donald Trump makes his suits,” Marc Bain, Quartz

The astute Mary Cummins notes that Donald J. Trump Collection suits are made in Mexico for Sheldon Brody’s Marcraft Apparel Group, which has offices in Trump Plaza. The Wall Street Journal found that their fabric quality was less than advertised.
