Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

“Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blaine for the 1944 movie Meet Me in St. Louis, performed by 21-year-old Judy Garland, who married the film’s director Vincente Minnelli in 1945. The original lyrics were considered depressing by the MGM producers, and Hugh Martin re-wrote them, crafting the poignant perennial enjoyed for seven decades.

Green Christmas

“Green Chri$tma$,” a 1958 send-up of holiday commercialism by humorist Stan Freberg, who was also an award-winning advertising executive. Music Director Billy May led the Columbia Records house orchestra and Jud Colon Chorale. At first the record was denounced as sacrilegious and many radio stations refused to play it, but the reality of this satire’s target became all too evident.
