The 4th of July. Hot Dog!

July 4, 2014

The 4th of July. Hot Dog!
Many Americans will celebrate this Independence Day by ingesting a batter-like slurry of pork and/or beef meat taken off the bone by advanced meat recovery machinery (AMM) and mixed with potassium lactate, sodium diacetate, sodium erythorbate, corn maltodextrin, sodium nitrate, and paprika extract, then forced into tubes for processing.

Patriotic citizens will heat the slurry-filled tubes over glowing little pillows of carbonized sawdust and petroleum distillates, place them in enriched flour buns moistened with a paste of ground yellow mustard seeds mixed with acetic acid and turmeric, and garnish them with many tiny cubes of chemically preserved cucumber dyed an improbable green with FD&C Yellow #5. Then they’ll eat them.

Yum!

The National Hot Dog & Sausage Council says Americans will eat 7 billion hot dogs this summer, 150 million of them on Independence Day. So enjoy our National Food, and have a safe and happy 4th of July.

Texas Town’s Request to Ted Nugent: Play ‘Far, Far Away’

Texas Town's Request to Ted Nugent: Play 'Far, Far Away'

The city of Longview Texas paid $16,250 to keep Ted Nugent from appearing at its municipal Fourth of July celebration. City leaders concluded that Mr. Nugent’s act was not the family-friendly entertainment they had in mind, but his agent claimed their preliminary talks constituted a verbal contract, so the town paid Mr. Nugent a “kill fee.” The 65-year-old rocker, once known for his guitar playing, now stays in the public eye through his racist comments, questionable lyrics, and gun-happy right-wing views.

More:

“Longview pays off rocker Ted Nugent to not perform,” Richard Yeakley, Longview News-Journal

“Rejection slip from Longview gig has Nugent hot as a firecracker,” Bud Kennedy, Fort Worth Star Telegram

The 4th of July. Hot Dog!

The 4th of July. Hot Dog!
Many Americans will celebrate this Independence Day by ingesting a batter-like poultry product (made by forcing bones and attached edible tissue through a sieve under high pressure) blended with a slurry of pork and/or beef meat taken off the bone by advanced meat recovery machinery (AMM) and mixed with potassium lactate, sodium diacetate, sodium erythorbate, corn maltodextrin, sodium nitrate, and paprika extract, then forced into tubes.

These will be heated over glowing little pillows formed of carbonized sawdust and petroleum distillates and placed in enriched flour buns moistened by a paste of ground yellow mustard seeds mixed with acetic acid and turmeric, then garnished with cubes of chemically preserved cucumber dyed an improbable green with FD&C Yellow #5.

Yum!

Fireworks

As usual, we’re walking down to the Mall to see the Independence Day pyrotechnics. This year we’re taking umbrellas as well as water bottles. We’re leaving you these links:

DC Fourth of July Travel Advisory

July 3, 2010

DC Fourth of July Travel Advisory

The Fourth of July will be celebrated in the District of Columbia with the traditional street closings and detours. Travel into and around Washington DC will be slow tomorrow as tourists jam the District to watch fireworks on the National Mall. Be careful who you cut off on the Wilson and Memorial bridges on your way in, though, because no one likes pyrotechnics more than the pistol-packing patrons of Champps sports bars in Northern Virginia.

Virginia’s new law permitting concealed weapons in saloons went into effect Thursday, and patrons of Champps celebrated with Glocks and iced tea. There are good reasons to pack heat in Virginia’s sports bars. You certainly need a semiautomatic firearm at Champps to defend your family against those dangerous Loaded Chips appetizers (cheddar, pepperjack, mozzarella, Asiago cream sauce, bacon, green onions, sour cream).

Have a safe and sane Independence Day.

4th of July Oratory from Sarah Palin

July 4, 2009

4th of July Oratory from Sarah Palin

Americans have long celebrated Independence Day with great speeches presenting  the principles of Democracy and Freedom with clarity and power. This year the nation’s most moving, patriotic, and eloquent Fourth of July Oration was by Alaska’s Governor Sarah Palin:

Now that’s what made our country great.

The offical transcript is here; you’ll want to print these inspiring words on parchment and recite them on Independence Days to come. Especially the part about “only dead fish go with the flow.”

Have a safe and sane 4th of July, and God Bless America.
