Standard Time

Hope you enjoyed your extra hour of sleep last night (in Europe, make that “last week“). America has now moved from “Daylight Saving Time” to “Standard Time,” except in Arizona, which stays in Standard Time all year long. Arizona also doesn’t believe in Climate ChangeWater FluoridationInternational Law, or Evolution, either. But wait:

“The fall transition to standard time is linked to an increase in crime that costs the country billions of dollars annually. Transitions into and out of daylight saving time are linked to disrupted sleep patternsincreased heart attack risk, and an uptick in fatal car accidents.

… a team of researchers from the departments of psychiatry and political science at the universities of Aarhus, Copenhagen and Stanford added another formal complaint to the indictment against clock-turning: The autumn shift to standard time appears to be closely linked to a jump in depression diagnoses around this time of year.”

Hope you enjoyed your extra hour of sleep last night (in Europe, make that “last week“). America has now moved from “Daylight Saving Time” to “Standard Time,” except in Arizona, which stays in Standard Time all year long. Arizona doesn’t believe in Daylight Saving Time, but that state doesn’t believe in Climate ChangeWater FluoridationInternational Law, or Evolution, either.

Many households will also change the batteries in their smoke detectors today. In Arizona people mark this day by putting fresh ammunition in their handguns.

Why does Arizona reject Daylight Saving Time? Perhaps the state’s many retirees can’t figure out how to change the time settings on their old VHS machines.

Big Sunday Savings. On Daylight.

Big Sunday Savings. On Daylight.
This Sunday morning, most Americans enjoyed big savings — an extra hour of sleep. By 2:00AM, people in most of the United States set their clocks ahead one hour. Many households also changed the batteries in their smoke detectors. In Arizona, where they don’t believe in Daylight Saving Time, people mark the day by putting fresh ammunition in their handguns.

The United States observes DST beginning on the second Sunday in March; the European Union on the last Sunday in March. Tunisia, Bangladesh, and Fiji have joined Arizona and no longer observe Daylight Saving Time.  We do not know if these counties also concur with Arizona’s denial of Climate ChangeWater Fluoridation,International Law, and Evolution.

There are many theories as to why Arizona rejects Daylight Saving Time. We think the state’s many retirees can’t figure out how to change the digital time settings on their old VHS machines.
