The Real Paleo Diet Was Full of Carbs

Devotees of the “Paleo Diet” (aka “Caveman Diet”) eat meat, seafood, eggs, and “non-starchy” fresh fruits and vegetables and eshew legumes, dairy products, and grains and other carbohydrates. That’s their idea of what humans ate in the Old Stone Age, before people learned how to farm and raise animals. They claim our prehistory shows the human body is ill-adapted to digest those new-fangled Neolithic farmed foods.

But that’s not the real menu of our ancestors, which included bugs, grubs, and all the starchy carbs they could get. And even though there were Stone Age food processors, they were used to make porridge, not “paleo smoothies.”

Dr. Oz: Miracle Snake Oil Diet!

Reality TV star Mehmet Öz, MD testified before a Senate committee last week about fraudulent weight loss scams. He knows all about it; he’s been promoting the likes of green coffee bean extractGarcinia Cambogia, forskolin, and gluten-free everything for years, when he’s not endorsing faith healing and homeopathy.

Has he no shame? Nope.

Cupcakes Are Sooo OVER.

April 19, 2013

Cupcakes Are Sooo OVER.

Gourmet cupcake shops infest America’s cities, proffering paper-wrapped pastries top-heavy with icing, selling single servings for the price of whole supermarket pies. The trend has been rising with yeasty vigor for over a decade — until now.

The cupcake fad is officially over. “The icing is coming off America’s cupcake craze,” says the Wall Street Journal, noting the collapse of share prices in Crumbs Bake Shop Inc.:

“After trading at more than $13 a share in mid-2011, Crumbs has sunk to $1.70. It dropped 34% last Friday, in the wake of Crumbs saying that sales for the full year would be down by 22% from earlier projections, and the stock slipped further this week.”
