COVID-19: Trump's Easter Parade Death March

While Americans shelter at home to slow the spread of a deadly virus and the number of US infected and dead grows, all President Donald Trump can see is plunging numbers on Wall Street. Public health officials advise months of social distancing and the closure of all non-essential businesses, but Mr. Trump wants the lockdown to end by Easter.

“We’re opening up this incredible country. Because we have to do that. I would love to have it open by Easter,” Trump told a Fox News virtual town hall. “I would love to have that. It’s such an important day for other reasons, but I’d love to make it an important day for this. I would love to have the country opened up, and rarin’ to go by Easter.”

“Easter’s a very special day for me,” he told (you guessed it) Fox News. “Wouldn’t it be great to have all of the churches full?”

Maybe the White House Easter Egg Roll can be replaced by a Toilet Paper Roll Roll.

Trump’s Next Crisis: White House Easter Egg Roll

Trump's Next Crisis: White House Easter Egg Roll

The West Wing is in crisis mode. An absentee First Lady (and a Jewish First Daughter) means that the White House is woefully unprepared for the annual White House Easter Egg Roll next Monday. There are not enough event volunteers or enough commemorative wooden Easter eggs for the number of kids expected, and military bands will have to entertain the throngs since no celebrities have been booked. Come to think of it, military bands are a good idea. With more kids than eggs, having a few extra soldiers on the White House lawn may be an asset.

Easter — Earth Day Weekend

April 24, 2011

Easter -- Earth Day Weekend

Earth Day has been observed on April 22nd since 1970.

Easter, the most important feast of the Christian liturgical calendar, occurs on the first Sunday after the Pascal Full Moon and the Vernal Equinox. The Western Church uses the Gregorian Calendar to calculate the date of the Equinox and the holiday; many branches of the Eastern Church use the Julian Calendar, and general observe the Easter holiday a few weeks later. We observe sunshine in Washington today, and plan to spend the afternoon enjoying it. Hope you can, too.

Obama’s Ward 8 Easter

April 4, 2010

Obama's Ward 8 Easter

President Barack Obama and his family attended Easter Sunday services at Allen Chapel AME Church in Southeast Washington’s Ward 8 today. The church is a few blocks from a place the President should visit on Monday: the city’s One-Stop Employment Center at 2626A Naylor Road SE (behind AutoZone).  Ward 8 has a 28 percent unemployment rate.

Allen Chapel distributes food to the needy every Friday and every other Wednesday at Outreach House (2443 Ainger Place). Maybe Mrs. Obama could bring over some produce from the White House Vegetable Garden.

Easter Breakfast

Easter Breakfast

Sure, you can serve the usual Easter Breakfast fare, but discerning palates prefer something truly seasonal. Something like Cadbury Creme Eggs Benedict.

Happy holiday.
