Why Trump Is Cranky

March 5, 2018

Why Trump Is Cranky

Last week President Trump suddenly imposed tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, much to the horror of free-trade Republicans, economists, farmers, and Americans who make things out of metal or buy that kind of stuff. The market plunged, and trading partners prepared to retaliate. Mr. Trump made the move without the knowledge of White House staff because he was in a bad mood. Why was he cranky? For the past two weeks the president has been on a diet, eating salads instead of his adored Big Macs.

“This story about how Trump impulsively launched a trade war is shocking — and shockingly unsurprising,” Aaron Blake, Washington Post

“Trump was angry and ‘unglued’ when he started a trade war, officials say,” Stephanie Ruhle and Peter Alexander, NBC News

“Trump’s trade war could erase all the tax-cut gains,” John Podhoretz, New York Post

How Americans Really Eat

January 26, 2016

How Americans Really Eat

The U.S. Government recently released new Dietary Guidelines. Since USDA also encourages consumer demand for beef, the guidelines don’t recommend avoiding red meat even though it’s a health risk. Why not? Beef producers have political clout, and anyway we all love our burgers.

Based on these lofty principles, we’ve developed “Guidelines on How Americans Really Eat Now” (above). Add an RC Cola or a PBR and you have a complete family meal.

And food processing creates millions of jobs too, amiright? Pass the Doritos, bro.

Man Eats Nothing But Pizza for 25 Years

Man Eats Noting But Pizza for 25 Years

“Beyond the fact that his diet is completely horrifying, he also has diabetes and frequently gets low blood sugar. When his blood sugar dips into the danger zone, it sometimes results in his blacking out on the kitchen floor in his underwear with frozen food scattered around him. There was that one time he bought a new car and then blacked out on the drive home. He swerved off the road and totaled the vehicle, but besides from that isolated incident, his pizza diet seems to be working out for him.”

— “This Man Has Survived on Pizza for 25 Years,” Justin Levy, VICE

Columbus Day Cuisine

October 8, 2011

Columbus Day Cuisine

On October 10, 2011, the Federal Office of Management and Budget observes the invasion of the Americas by Christophorus Columbus (aka Christoffa Corombo, Cristoforo Colombo, Cristóvão Colombo, Christovam Colom, and Cristóbal Colón), a Genoese private contractor working for the government of Castille. Federal employees have Monday off, even at the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

To celebrate at home, discover America’s food with a Decolonizing Diet dinner party. Serve only pre-contact foods: corn, beans, squash, game meats, fruit, fish, peppers and more  — but no wheat, sugar, pork, beef, dairy, processed foods, and so on. Dr. Martin Reinhardt at Northern Michigan University and a crew of twenty-five will be chowing down on indigenous grub for a year. Next month, like-minded folks elsewhere will try eating that way for a weekDr. Devon Mihesuah (University of Kansas) has some suggested recipes here.

Note: Monday, Oct. 10, 2010 is Native American Day in South Dakota.

Bill Clinton, Not as Beefy

Bill Clinton, Not as Beefy

“I live on beans, legumes, vegetables, fruit,” Bill Clinton told Wolf Blitzer. “No milk.” The former President lost 24 pounds eating that way.

PETA named the veggie-lovin’ Ex-Prez its Person of the Year.

“God willing, he won’t be appearing nude in any future PETA ads,” writes Salon’s Mary Elizabeth Williams.
