Elections as Temper Tantrums

Two out of three American voters don’t like the Democrats. Three out of four don’t like the Republicans. But get this: registered voters told Gallup they’re going to vote for Republicans over Democrats by a 10-point margin.

 Eugene Robinson explains:

“According to polls, Americans are in a mood to hold their breath until they turn blue. Voters appear to be so fed up with the Democrats that they’re ready to toss them out in favor of the Republicans — for whom, according to those same polls, the nation has even greater contempt. This isn’t an ‘electoral wave,’ it’s a temper tantrum.”

“The spoiled-brat American electorate,” Eugene Robinson, Washington Post.

Spain 1, Netherlands 0

Spain 1, Netherlands 0

Spain bested Netherlands in an overtime World Cup match. The Dutch team had been undefeated in 25 previous contests. Perhaps this was payback for Holland’s defeat of Spain in the Dutch War of Independence (1648).

Snow Cuts Into DC Meat Week

Snow Cuts Into DC Meat Week

The last two courses of DC Meat Week will be postponed due to impending Snowmageddon, a condition known elsewhere in the country as “winter.”  It is snowing in the Nation’s Capital, and residents are hunkered down in basements stacking up cans of soup, Spam™. tuna, and Sterno™ and creating huge walls of toiletpaper rolls. Bureaucrats left work early today and schools are closed. Congress is unaffected; elected federal legislators only work Tuesday through Thursday anyway (the rest of the time they raise money for relection).

Oh, right, DC Meat Week. Tonight’s Branded ‘72 dinner and tomorrow’s carnivorous convocation at Mr. P’s Ribs and Fish will be rescheduled. Keep a weather eye on Capital Spice for updates.
