NY AG Has NRA in the Crosshairs

NY AG Has NRA in the Crosshairs

New York Attorney General Letitia James, alleging years of fraud and corruption by National Rifle Association executives, filed a lawsuit Thursday seeking to dissolve the NRA. Attorney General James has jurisdiction since the purportedly nonprofit NRA was chartered in New York State in 1871. The suit outlines decades of self-dealing, questionable contracts to family and friends of NRA leaders, payoffs, luxury executive perks, lavish compensation, and tens of millions in financial misconduct. Since the allegations involve tax fraud, the state is sharing its information with the IRS. Bewhiskered General Ambrose Burnside, first NRA President, is no doubt rolling around in his grave.

The DC Attorney General, claiming that the NRA raided its own NRA Foundation to stem the losses of the NRA proper, filed a second lawsuit against the gun group.

NRA Robocalls Newtown Residents

NRA Robocalls Newtown Residents

As part of it’s lobbying campaign to block gun violence legislation before the Connecticut legislature, the National Rifle Association has been robocalling residents of Newtown, site of the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting which cost the lives of 20 small children and 6 educators on December 14th. Newtown residents are understandably appalled and enraged.

You can hear the recorded message by clicking on the link below. Imagine how it would sound if you got this robocall while sitting at the dinner table with your child, a surviving schoolmate of the young victims, or if there was an empty chair at dinner since December 14th.

NRA Testimony

January 31, 2013

NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre testified at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on gun violence Wednesday, explaining that Americans need high-capacity firearms in order to defend their right to own high-capacity firearms. He probably did that to draw attention away from the fact that the NRA now opposes background checks for all gun buyers, a policy it once supported, and the fact that he is paid a million bucks a year for this kind of blather.

NRA Blames Gun Violence on Shooting Games, Then Releases Shooting Game

January 14, 2013

NRA Blames Gun Violence on Shooting Games, Then Releases Shooting Game

“Videogames are among the suspects that the National Rifle Association blames for gun violence in the United States. In his press conference after the Newtown massacre, for instance, the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre called game makers ‘a callous, corrupt and corrupting shadow industry that sells, and sows, violence against its own people.’ So the rest of us are entitled to ask, aren’t we, why the NRA just released a free app for iOS that teaches how to shoot? Especially since, as Annie-Rose Strasser noticed, the first screen shot that pops up on the game’s page is of coffin-shaped targets, with helpful red marks at head and heart level.”

— “The NRA, Which Blames Shooting Games for Gun Violence, Has Just Released a Shooting Game,” David Berreby, Big Think

Security Firm Lobbyist Runs NRA School Gun Program

Security Firm Lobbyist Runs NRA School Gun Program

When 26 school children and educators were murdered in Connecticut last month, the National Rifle Association’s response called for government to spend billions putting armed guards in every American school, putting kids in the crossfire. Heading the NRA’s “National School Shield Program“: Asa Hutchinson, who sits on the board of Pinkerton Government Services, which stands to reap huge profits from such a program. Mr. Hutchinson’s law firm has also represented the trigger-happy Blackwater mercenary army, shadowy Iraq war engineers SAIC, and Point Blank Body Armor.

What Glenn Beck Means to DC

August 27, 2010

What Glenn Beck Means to DC

Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, and thousands of their gun-totin’ pals from the National Rifle Association are coming to the Nation’s Capital on Saturday to commemorate their deeply held belief in something-or-other. The date, January 28th, is the 47th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, and the rally will be in the same place it was heard, the Lincoln Memorial. Perhaps the NRA will have T-shirts honoring Dr. King and President Lincoln, both assassinated by gunshot.

But this weekend’s event means more than hijacked history, Tea Party antics,  and Glenn Beck’s self-promotion. To the people of Washington, the rally means closed streets, crowded subways, and paranoid Tea Party tourists. In short, just another weekend in Washington.

DC With Glenn Beck: Tea Party Tourism

DC With Glenn Beck: Tea Party Tourism

Glen Beck and his pals are observing the 47th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech next Saturday (August 28, 2010) by gathering at the Lincoln Memorial with the National Rifle Association. Very fitting, since President Lincoln and Rev. King were assassinated by gunshot.

Beck’s buddies are boldly standing up for something-or-other but, unlike 20 million other tourists each year, they’re scared stiff of Washington DC. Beck blogs warn them to avoid the Green and Yellow Metro lines where they might encounter rampaging hordes of junior high students and other urban horrors.

‘I Have a Dream” Nightmare

August 3, 2010

'I Have a Dream' Nightmare
August 28th will mark the 47th anniversary of Rev. Martin Luther King’s “March on Washington.” To commemorate this landmark of nonviolence and the martyred  moral leader, media demagogue Glenn Beck and the National Rifle Association will throw a party. It will be in the same place as the 1963 march: the Lincoln Memorial, shrine to an American president who was shot to death.

Instead of Dr. King, the mob will hear consummate orator Sarah Palin; instead of singer Marian Anderson, the music of noted patriot and guitarist Ted Nugent. What could be more respectful or fitting?
