Heil & Farewell, Tucker Carlson

April 25, 2023

Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson, the preppy, petulant, Putin-loving prevaricator who dominated Fox News (or “News”) ratings for the past 6 years, was unceremoniously dumped by the right-wing network early on Monday. Fox stocks took an immediate $700 million nosedive.

There was a temptation to attribute the dissmissal to Mr. Carlson’s cynical lies that helped precipitate the $787.5 million Fox Corp. settlement in the Dominion Voting Systems case. But Tucker Carlson wasn’t fired because he’s a liar, a White Nationalist, or a fascist, or a Proud Boys provocateur. It was because he was a bullying, sexist pig.

Mr. Carlson may return to broadcasting on Russian state media or Dancing With the Stars. Who will replace him on Fox?  The New Yorker‘s Andy Borowitz has a view:”Fox Replaces Tucker Carlson with Lying Chatbot.”

Un-American. Unconstitutional. Unacceptable.

Un-American. Unconstitutional. Unacceptable.
Making people from a minority group wear identity badges, registering them in a database and tracking themDenying sanctuary to refugees due to their faith traditions and returning them to deadly war zones. Closing houses of worship. Barring valid travelers from entering this country due solely to their religion.

That’s not America.

A man who grew up across the street from his German-American immigrant grandmother should know better. Even one who is an egocentric, bigoted, billionaire bully.

NFL Makes Arizona Do The Right Thing

March 1, 2014

NFL Makes Arizona Do The Right Thing

The National Football League pressured Arizona Governor Jan Brewer into doing the right thing for the wrong reason. Mrs. Brewer vetoed the ill-conceived “Religious Freedom for Bigots” bill, the separate-but-equal homophobic-apartheid measure passed by her state’s legislature. The NFL, itself still learning tolerance for sexual minorities, threatened to relocate the next Superbowl from the University of Phoenix Stadium to a more inclusive state. Other huge corporations said they were reconsidering doing business in the Grand Canyon State, and the convention and business meeting forecast started to look cloudy.

Concepts like “equal access to places of public accommodation” likely mean nothing to Mrs. Brewer, but she surely remembers her state’s loss of business when Arizona passed a racist immigration law and earlier when it refused to recognize the King Holiday.

Bye-Bye Bachmann

Congresscreature Michele Bachmann, who has represented Minnesota’s 6th District and Planet Mars for the past eight years, will retire from Congress next year in order to spend more quality time with her attorneys. Mrs. Bachmann, the screaming whistle of the Tea Party kettle, is under investigation for shenanigans perpetrated during her presidential campaign quest for World Domination in the name of Jesus.

Rep. Bachmann will be mourned by the army of fact-checkers and copy editors she has kept fully employed during her four terms in office.

Dinesh D’Souza Teaches Adultery 101

Dinesh D’Souza Teaches Adultery 101

In 2010, conspiracy loon and propaganda producer Dinesh D’Souza was appointed President of The King’s College, a Christian institution of higher yearning located near a holy Republican shrine, the New York Stock Exchange, and funded by the Campus Crusade for Christ.  Mr. D’Sousa got a million dollars a year to run the evangelical college in between churning out books and movies and making well-paid speaking engagements and media appearances where he spoke about ethics, faith, and morality. Somehow he found time in his busy schedule to leave his wife for someone else’s wife, a young woman whom he’s been introducing as his “fiancée.” Now, that’s family values. Praise the Lord!

This situation was revealed by the evangelical Christian World Magazine. Naturally Mr. D’Sousa claimed it was all a conspiracy, but he was forced to resign anyway.

They Gave a Tea Party, But Nobody Came.

September 11, 2012

They Gave a Tea Party, But Nobody Came.

“The Greater Phoenix Tea Party Patriots group has pulled the plug on Pat Boone and Sheriff Joe Arpaio, cancelling their Sept. 22 ‘Birther’ bash at the city’s Celebrity Theatre ‘due to inadequate ticket sales.’

The venue’s website touts an ‘intimate atmosphere of this 2,650-seat theater in the round’ with an ‘extremely rare revolving stage.’

Prices of entry ranged from $10, for tickets purchased in advance, to $25 if you wanted a ‘Meet and Greet’ with the Maricopa County sheriff, who is pushing for a ‘Congressional investigation into the fraudulent documents produced by the [Obama] administration.”

“Pat Boone and Sheriff Joe’s Arizona ‘Birther’ Party Scrapped,” Gregory J. Krieg, ABC News

Word of the Year in a Year of Hate

Word of the Year in a Year of Hate

The New Oxford American Dictionary has announced the 2010 Word of the Year: Refudiate. The coinage, a conflation “repudiate” and “refute,” was used by former Temp-Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin to inflame religious intolerance and defend race hatred. Mrs. Palin, a scholarly former sportscaster who attended five colleges, one of them twice, used the word intentionally, first on the Sean Hannity Show and then in a famous tweet.

Sharron Angle Defends USA From Muslim Invasion!

October 12, 2010

Sharron Angle Defends US From Muslim Invasion!

“… we’re talking about a militant terrorist situation, which I believe it isn’t a widespread thing, but it is enough that we need to address, and we have been addressing it.”

“My thoughts are these, first of all, Dearborn, Michigan, and Frankford, Texas are on American soil, and under constitutional law. Not Sharia law. And I don’t know how that happened in the United States. It seems to me there is something fundamentally wrong with allowing a foreign system of law to even take hold in any municipality or government situation in our United States.”
— Sharron Angle, Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate.
