There’s a Santa That Looks a Lot Like Elvis

December 23, 2014

“There’s a Santa that looks a lot like Elvis,” a Bob Rivers parody of Meredith Willson‘s “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” sung in a Bing Crosby sound-alike voice. Crooner Crosby had a hit with the tune in 1951.

Young people: Elvis Presley was a popular vocalist back in the last century. In his later years he … um, filled out a bit from eating deep-fried peanut butter-jelly-and-bacon sandwiches, and weighed 350 pounds at his death in 1977. Of course, your grandma might not think he’s dead.

Bob Rivers recordings.

Blagojevich Sings!

December 20, 2008

Blagojevich Sings!

Blagojevich sings! Or sang, anyway. Not at yesterday’s performance, though, and not Elvis songs (the Governor does love the King, though).

He sang in Serbian.

Smithsonian Misses Another Opportunity
Artist’s concept

After 25 years, the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame is leaving St. Louis, Missouri. Is it moving to the vacant Smithsonian museum on the National Mall, the Arts and Industry Building? No. It is going to Arlington, Texas, just like the Washington Senators baseball team did.

DC Tourism Campaign Begins with a Bang

Capitalizing on the power of news headlines, Washington, DC tourism officials have adapted their “Create Your Own Power Trip” ad campaign to embrace the handgun issue. The Supreme Court’s vague “District of Columbia v. Heller” opinion has created a chain of local litigation and, since election time nears, Congress got in on the act. There will Washington, DC handgun headlines for months to come, so lets make the most of it.

Elvis is Alive: Moving Back to Mississippi

November 17, 2007

Elvis is Alive - Moving Back to Mississippi

The Elvis is Alive Museum of Wright City, MO has been sold on eBay and will leave its long-time home, a converted laundromat, to move closer to the Presley Birthplace.

Andy Key’s winning bid of $8,000 will allow him to move the massive mound of memorabilia to Mississippi, possibly Laurel, Jackson or Hattiesburg. That will put it near the Presley Birthplace site in Tupelo, which is also known for . . . some other stuff.

Reminder: Crate Art Opening Tonight

November 2, 2007

Crate Art Opening Tonight

Tonight’s the night that Baltimore’s Walters Art Museum opens the mystery crates. Do they hold ancient art or old plus-fours (“Not Wanted On Voyage”) belonging to museum founder Henry Walters (1848 – 1931)?

The mystery crates will be opened by a locksmith at 7:30PM tonight (Friday, November 2nd) at the Walters. Admission is free.

For some mysterious reason, Curator Gary Vikan will exhibit a slide show about Elvis at 6:30PM, before the event. Tell him about my idea to put Elvis on the National Mall.

Elvis on the Mall?

Smithsonian A and I Museum - Home for Elvis?

Can Elvis Shake Up the Smithsonian?

The Smithsonian is looking for an outside group to help renovate and operate the Arts and Industries Building on the National Mall.

The famed “Elvis Is Alive” Museum of Wright City, Missouri is going out of business.

Let’s think about this a minute . . . . Has Elvis been left this building?

Thankyouverymuch.
