Nevada Caucus

Nevada Caucus

Iowa Democrats flipped a coin to break their caucus deadlocks, but today’s caucus is in Nevada:

“‘In these very limited circumstances where two or more presidential preference groups are tied for the loss or gain of a delegate, groups must each draw a single card from a deck of cards to break the tie. The high card determines the winner, and aces are high.’

The party will furnish each precinct location with an ‘unopened deck’ to be shuffled ‘at least seven times’ after extra cards, like jokers, are removed. If the two sides pull cards of the same rank, the winner will be determined by suit: spades are the highest, with hearts, diamonds and clubs — in that order — to follow.”

–“Nevada Democrats will break caucus ties with high-card draw,” Gregory Krieg, CNN

–“Here’s how the Nevada caucuses work,” Michelle Rindels, AP via PBS Newshour

Bernie Surges!

July 17, 2015

Bernie Surges!
Vermont’s Democratic Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders is drawing bigger crowds than any other 2016 presidential candidate, 2,500 in Iowa, 10,000 in one Wisconsin event alone. While some think his positions are too radical for America, others think they have more in common with Teddy Roosevelt than Eugene Debs.

Right now Senator Sanders’ grassroots effort is gaining on Hillary Clinton in the polls. All he needs now is some kind of campaign song ….

April 17, 2015

Hillary's Happenin' Heartland Road Trip
Former limo-riding senator and jet-setting Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton kicked off her campaign by riding from Westchester to Iowa in a Chevy van. It was a gas-pumping, burrito-bowl-eating road trip. Now Ms. Clinton’s “Scooby Van‘” is cruising the Hawkeye State, chased by stray dogs and reporters, as she campaigns for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.

Blago Behind Bars

March 14, 2012

Blago Behind Bars

Disgraced former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich bade farewell to the Chicago media before leaving for a 14-year Colorado vacation in Federal prison. The Democrat is the second Illinois governor in a row to serve time for corruption. His predecessor, Republican George Ryan, is serving a 6 1/2 year sentence in Terre Haute.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons gave Mr. Blagojevich a bon voyage gift, a new name. He’s now known as 40892-424. Here’s another number: 69. That’s how old Mr. B. will be when he finishes serving his time.

Blago: Big House Bound

December 7, 2011

Blago: Big House Bound

At his sentencing hearing, convicted former Ilinois governor Rod Blagojevich told the judge he was “unbelievably sorry” for his crimes. Judge James Zagel must have found this remorse “unbelievable,” too. He sentenced Mr. Blagojevich to 14 years in prison.

Rod Blagojevich, a Democrat, was convicted of corruption, a nonpartisan attribute of Illinois governors. His predecessor, Republican George Ryan, is also in the pokey for racketeering.

Blago Loses Law License

October 27, 2011

Blago Loses Law License

The Illinois Supreme Court asked former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich why his license to practice law should not be revoked. Uncharacteristically, Mr. Blagojevich was at a loss for words. The court pulled his ticket. The ex-Gov, convicted on federal corruption charges, is currently awaiting sentencing, and faces up to a zillion years in prison.

Mrs. Patti Blagojevich has a new business, selling employee benefit insurance policies. In an outbreak of Illinois irony, her husband may lose his pension.
