Sermonette

“Sermonette,” written by Cannnonball Adderly, with lyrics by Jon Hendricks, recorded by Lambert, Hendricks & Ross in 1958. Gildo Mahones (piano), Harry “Sweets” Edison (trumpet), Ike Isaacs (bass), Walter Bolden (drums).

The composer’s brother Nat Adderley recorded an instrumental version of the tune in 1956, and Della Reese recorded the vocal version in 1958.

Young People: back in the last century, TV channels would stop broadcasting late at night and start up again in the morning, and often ran a short religious message or sermonette at these times.
