Patti Page 1927 -- 2013

Vocalist Patti Page (born Clara Ann Fowler) died on New Years Day. The best-selling female artist of the 1950s, with 15 gold records and three gold albums, she sold over 100 million vinyl records. A former Grammy winner, Patti Page will be awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Recording Academy in February.

This is her big pop-country hit, the 1950 recording of “Tennessee Waltz,” overdubs and all:

“Patti Page, Honey-Voiced ’50s Pop Sensation, Dies at 85,” Anita Gates, New York Times

“Patti Page, Who Dominated The ’50s Pop Charts, Dies,” Jacob Ganz, NPR

“Patti Page, ‘Tennessee Waltz’ singer, dies at 85,” Randy Lewis, Los Angeles Times blog
