The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket has successfully delivered it’s cargo of Blue Bell Ice Cream Sundae Cups to the orbiting International Space Station. This is the first of a dozen missions on SpaceX’s $1.6 billion contract with NASA. See the quantum leap you get with a private space launch company? No more freeze-dried astronaut ice cream.
Actually, Sky Lab and ISS crews have enjoyed real ice cream, and Blue Bell flew on NASA’s 1995 Atlantis shuttle mission. The brand has a special place in the hearts of Texans, and Mission Control is in Houston. Blue Bell has been on some historic lower-altitude flights, too. President Johnson stuffed the Air Force One freezers with it when he flew back to Washington from Austin.
