IBM PC 1981

The personal computer turns 30. IBM’s PC was introduced in August 1981.

Fidel Castro turns 85 today. There was a big party in Havana but el comandante wasn’t there.

It’s 50 years since the birth of the Berlin Wall (Antifaschistischer Schutzwall or “Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart”) and most of it missed the party, too.

Today is also the birthday of Ben Hogan (born 1912), Alfred Hitchcock (1899), Annie Oakley (1860), William Caxton (1422), Anders Jonas Ångström (1814),Bert Lahr (1895), Regis Toomey (1902), Alfried Krupp (1907), George Shearing (1920), Joycelyn Elders (1933), Saul Steinberg (1939), Kathleen Battle (1948), Herb Ritts (1952), Dan Fogelberg (1951), Pat Harrington, Jr. (1929), Rex Humbard (1919),  Bambi (1942), and Don Ho (1930).
