Attention Sports Fans!

Attention Sports Fans!

The United Kingdom is sparing no expense in preparing for next summer’s Olympic Games. The host city of London is testing new demonstration sports — rioting, arson, and looting — and enthusiasm for these Xtreme sports is sweeping the country.

Some sports authorities bemoan these innovations, but sports fans in Brazil are chuffed. All this British activity makes the choice of crime-plagued Rio de Janeiro as the site of the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games look reasonable in comparison.

A historian of England’s Tudor period sounds off on UK Afro-Caribbean urban culture, as if thousands of white and Asian youths did not riot.

Maybe he’s thinking of Kett’s Rebellion of July 1549. Of course, everyone involved back then was white. See also: “Robert Ket and the Norfolk Rising,”
