Cherry Blossoms

Cherry Blossoms

As Washington’s famed cherry blossoms are poised to reach their peak, let us take a moment to reflect on the land of their origin, Japan.

Done? Okay, back to DC.

In keeping with the gentle, contemplative nature of the Japanese blossom-viewing tradition, Washington visitors can take part in the Cherry Blossom Rugby Tournament, Cherry Blossom Festival Gala Dinner Cruise, Cherry Blossom Family Bike Rally, Cherry Blossom Classic Golf Tournament, Cherry Blossom Festival Pink Tie Party,  and Cherry Blast Dance Party.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade® includes traditional touches like decorated floats, gigantic helium balloons of Bugs Bunny and Yogi Bear, marching bands, precision drill teams, and the National Cherry Blossom Festival® All-Star Youth Tap Dance Team and Choir. There will also be Japanese cultural performances by Sheryl Lee Ralph, CeCe Peniston, Atticus Shaffer, and Christylez Bacon.

Springtime in Washington, a time to commune with nature and contemplate the beauty and transience of life. Or something.

The NPS Cherry Blossom Webcam is finally working (refresh your browser when you re-visit). Couldn’t see any of Sunday morning’s snowflakes on it.
