Sarah and the Secessionists

Governor Palin’s Welcome Message to the 2008 Alaska Independence Party Convention.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has neither confirmed nor denied reports that she attended the 1994 and 2000 Alaska Independence Party Conventions with her husband, Todd.  Mr. Palin was a registered member of the Alaska Independence Party from 1995 to 2002. The organization seeks the secession of Alaska from the United States of America.

Rosa Brooks of the Los Angeles Times reports a video of AIP Vice Chairman Dexter Clark at the 2007 North American Secessionist Convention in which he describes Governor Palin as:

[An} . . . AIP member before she got the job as a mayor of a small town — that was a nonpartisan job. But you get along to go along. She eventually joined the Republican Party, where she had all kinds of problems with their ethics, and well, I won’t go into that.

Alaska Independence Party  founder Joe Vogler told an interviewer “The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government. … And I won’t be buried under their damn flag.”

Clearly,  this is not the 4-H Club that Governor Palin has welcomed here. Recall that the Governor repeatedly questions Senator Obama’s patriotism and read Mr. Vogeler’s words again.

The McCain-Palin motto is “Country First.” Perhaps the Senator shuould check the AIP website, then ask his running mate if they have the same county in mind.

it’s been well confirmed she was never a member of the party, and she never attended the conventions. The linked video was played via recording at one of the conventions (hence why she’s seated at a desk, rather than standing on stage).

So it’s BS…..on the other hand, not only Is he a member of a Racist Church, friends with Convicted Felons and domestic Terrorists, he’s also a card-carrying socialist

You are mistaken about Sarah Palin and the AIP. The record does not show she was ever an officially registered member, but the VP of the organization says she was a cladestine one — read the post.

As for attending the AIP conventions, the AIP President first told ABC-News Mrs. Palin attended the 1994 meeting, then denied it, and finally said “Ask Sarah.” You see any quotes from Sarah? No one denies she attended the 2000 AIP Convention with Todd.

Of course the Gov was on video in the 2008 AIP Convention; the meeting was in Sitka, she was in Anchorage or Juneau. She tells the “Alaska First” secessionists “Keep up the good work.”

Obama’s statehouse run was endorsed by the Chicago “New Party.” So?

Just what felons did Obama hang out with? The ones his community organization educated and found jobs for? His father-in-law? He had a Federal rap sheet. Maybe you mean drug thief and embezzler Cindy McCain — oh, wait, she’s too rich to have a permanent record. Professor Ayers? He has never been convicted of a crime — look it up.

  4. Weer'd Beard Says:

So Sarah was a sooper seekrit Secessionist? There’s taking a play out of the McCarthy book right there.

And of course to point out your shoddy reading, the linked article points out Obama was a MEMBER of “New Party”

Ayers never was convicted of his crimes….OJ was never convicted of the Murders…both brag about doing it. Who has his head stuck in the sand?

  5. Mike Licht Says:

WB: I did not say Sarah Palin was an AIP infiltrator of the Alaska Republican Party — AIP Vice Chairman Dexter Clark said it, and it was recorded on videotape (quoted abote). This was reported in major press outlets, which have have said Mr. Clark retracted his taped statement. If you know otherwise, please share this with us.

Obama’s statehouse run was endorsed by the Chicago “New Party.” This has been confirmed by several sources. One source has asserted Obama membership in the New Party and this has not been confirmed, merely echoed. It may be the result of a single poorly-written newsletter.

But even if Obama was a member, not merely a Democrat endorsed by the New Party (as the record indicates), so what? Was the New Party on the FBI list of subversive organizations? It was democratic organization, did not advocate the overthrow of the U.S. or the Constitution. It did not advocate secession of any states from the union.

Just another distraction by the desperate and morally bankrupt McCain campaign.

  6. Weer'd Beard Says:

Nope, but they are Socalists, which is a totally legal and legitimate party.

What’s the difference? Well there obviously is one since New Party and Obama want this information hidden.

And be careful how you use “morally bankrupt” when supporting Obama.

    Makes you kinda silly.

  7. Mike Licht Says:

Who told you the New Party was “Socialist?” They described themselves as “Progressive.” See for yourself.

There actually is a “Democratic Socialists of America” party.
