On Friday, October 3, 2008, from 4 – 6pm, a panel at the University of Alaska at Anchorage Bookstore (2901 Spirit Way, Anchorage, AK 99508) will discuss Alexander Solzhenitsyn: The Man and Symbol Reconsidered as part of Banned Books Week. Contact Rachel Epstein at 786-4782.

Hmm. Anchorage is only 45 miles from Wasilla. Do you think . . . .?

Public and university libraries are celebrating the Freedom to Read, even in Alaska. Many — like the Ketchikan Public Library and Kettleson Memorial Library in Sitka — have displays of frequently challenged books. Thank your professional librarians for maintaining your right to the free information access that makes informed democracy possible.
