NASA Holiday Weekend Road Trip

NASA Holiday Weekend Road Trip
(Artist’s conception)

While you were stuck in highway traffic on the way home from the beach, mountains, or nudist fishing camp, NASA celebrated a space triumph, landing the Phoenix Mars probe in the cool North Polar area of Mars. No sea ice or polar bears there, either.

NASA showed its typical public relations genius, scheduling this spectacular and scientifically significant mission during a three-day holiday weekend, when Americans don’t read newspapers or watch news on TV.

President Bush, certified F-102 fighter pilot in the Texas Air National Guard, prefers his Mars missions with live meat in the seats, just like the U.S. Air Force does on our own planet. NASA scientists have a technical term for such space missions: Stupid Friggin’ Stunts.

Congratulations to NASA and the Phoenix Mars probe team. Seen their holiday snapshots yet? Take a look.
