Congressman Louis Buller “Louie” Gohmert, Jr. (R, TX-01 and DC) misquoted Martin Luther King, Jr. and King David to assembled multitudes of the born and unborn at the recent March for Life Rally on the National Mall in Washington, DC (his second but non-voting district) on Jan 22, 2008.
Unfazed by the defeat of his recent effort to preserve dogfights, Mr. Gohmert told the anti-abortion rally:
As King David said in essence: ‘You Lord did form us in our mother’s womb; You did weave us in our mother’s womb. You formed our inner parts. We should give thanks to You for we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works, oh Lord; Our souls know it so very well (Psalm 139:13-14).
The psalm, according to an informed source (King James), is actually:
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
The source of Mr. Gohmert’s insights on King David’s innards is unknown.
The Congressman continued:
We’re here not too far from where one great American, Martin Luther King, Jr., said he had a dream. He dreamed that ‘little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.’ But they will have to be born to do that.
Mr. Gohmert thanked the crowd for keeping the Dream alive for ” . . . all God’s children, red, yellow, brown, black, and white, born and unborn . . . .” The Congressman did not state his position on voting rights for the unborn or their rights of access to public accommodations.
Rev. King had a dream; given his concern with King David’s anatomy, perhaps Mr. Gohmert had indigestion.
It is not known if Mr. Gohmert’s daughter Caroline (pictured below, pursuing her studies at the University of Texas) attended the rally or accompanied the Congressman on his trip to confer with the unborn of Kurdistan (tourist slogan: “The Other Iraq“).
Perhaps the living adult citizens of Kurdistan told Mr. Gohmert why their fingers were dyed purple. If not, the voteless U.S. citizens of Washington, DC would be glad to explain it.
