Archaeologists contracted by the Maryland Department of Transportation have almost finished a field study of a prehistoric site near Georgia Avenue, north of Norbeck Road. These patient fieldworkers have filled more than 175 boxes with artifacts for further laboratory analysis.
Most of these artifacts are prehistoric studies of a projected 18-mile trail running from trails corresponding to today’s Interstate 270 in Montgomery County to Interstate 95 in Prince George’s County, the route now called called the Inter-County Connector or ICC.
Image excavated by Mike Licht. Apologies to the ICC project team, the Cornell Archaeology program, and the prehistoric residents of the dig area.
