The Dwight D, Eisenhower Memorial will be installed on a four acre plot on the National Mall, at the foot of Capitol Hill. The Eisenhower Memorial Commission has approved a design by renowned architect Frank Gehry. Fittingly, it resembles the large trash incinerators so common during the Eisenhower Administration (1953-1961).

Tiger Woods is returning to professional golf at the Masters next month. The storied event is held at the genteel Augusta National Golf Club.
“ The controlled environment of The Masters is … a perfect spot for Woods to return to the sport after a carefully orchestrated rehabilitation.”
“It’s the only tournament where the media is not allowed inside the ropes and members run the news conferences.” — “ Los Angeles Times.
Mr. Woods could not have found a safer place than the Augusta National Golf Club for his re-emergence after a messy sex scandal. The place doesn’t have any women members.

Professional golfer Tiger Woods has been named 2009 Man of Year.
Okay, we say “Person of the Year” these days, but Mr. Woods has made a man-sized dent in the news lately.
And the title was not bestowed by Time Magazine but by New York Times columnist Frank Rich, who observes:
We keep being fooled by leaders in all sectors of American life, over and over. A decade that began with the “reality” television craze exemplified by “American Idol” and “Survivor” — both blissfully devoid of any reality whatsoever — spiraled into a wholesale flight from truth.
Read it. Mr. Rich makes a persuasive case for the golfer. Time‘s editorial rationale for their choice, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, is as weak as the economy he is alleged to have saved.

Is professional golfer Tiger Woods moving to New Hampshire? The state may be extending an invitation by de-criminalizing adultery.
We have not been able to determine if South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford has joined the New Hampshire Republican Party, but South Carolina is linked to the Granite State by the Appalachian Trail.

The media are covering golf as never before, thanks to Tiger Woods. Suddenly a game played by pear-shaped men in gaudy duds on ecologically wasteful courses, where alcoholism and gambling are rampant, is sexy.
The connection to alcohol remains, of course — most of Mr. Woods’ extracurricular partners seem to be cocktail waitresses, and he sat out the Breathalyzer Invitational at his exclusive home course in Florida. Experts agree that he needs to work on his drive.
Sports fans should keep this in perspective, though. If he wants to match the record set by NBA champion Wilt Chamberlain, the PGA’s Tiger Woods has a long way to go.

Former Duke “Blue Devil” Golf Team member Andrew Giuliani is making headlines this week — not as a pro golfer, but for helping Federal Judge Wallace W. Dixon launch a second career in standup comedy. Mr. Giuliani is the son of former New York mayor and failed Republican presidential candidate Rudolph “9-11″ Giuliani and one of his former wives, newscaster-actress Donna Hanover.
Andrew Giuliani was thrown off the Duke University golf team for being a bad sport and a bad golfer. Naturally he sued the university and golf coach for breach of contract; what spoiled brat wouldn’t? Duke just awarded young Mr. Giuliani his degree; he filed Civil Action No. 1:08—cv—00502 in Federal District Court and turned pro (after a fashion).
The result of the legal action: a star is born. Not Mr. Giuliani but Judge Dixon, whose opinion on the case delighted duffers and editors alike, making hilarious headlines:

“Golf is a good walk spoiled.” — Mark Twain
Five hours hitting a hard little ball around a field with sticks, knocking it into a hole in the ground, eighteen times. Are we having fun yet?
But what’s this? Guys and gals in shorts and T-shirts running around a golf course with a half-dozen clubs? 18 holes in 45 minutes? The Wall Street Journal‘s John Paul Newport took a bit longer to play a round of “Speed Golf,” but still found it “downright thrilling.” Is that like, you know, F-U-N?
