
12-year-old Lauren Rojas of Antioch, California wanted to do a project for the seventh grade science fair, so she launched a Hello Kitty doll 93,625 feet into Space. Miss Rojas got a do-it-yourself balloon kit from High Altitude Science, an altimeter, thermometer, tracker and some video cameras. Here’s what her space mission looked like:
Okay, 93,625 feet, 17.7 miles up, isn’t technically Outer Space; that begins at 62 miles. But it’s pretty darn skippy for a seventh grader and her stuffed kitty cat.
