First Tunisia, then Egypt, and now … the Big Apple. Al Jazeera English is coming to New York City, subletting the RISE cable channel. AJE has been virtually shut-out of U.S. markets due to post 9/11 xenophobia, but the U.S. media relied on Doha-based Al Ajzeera for coverage of the recent Arab Spring uprisings, so the absurdity of the exclusion has become apparent.

About time. We shouldn’t be afraid of other viewpoints.
While I sometimes disagree, vehemently, with their editorial positions and only occasionally agree with others, they do a pretty good job of straight up reporting.
Certainly they did a better job in the recent domestic terrorist shootings in Norway than some of the heavily biased conservative media.

Here in the DC area AJE is broadcast over-the-air on the Mhz Networks, and this was invaluable for coverage of Arab Spring movements.

Actually, I don’t recall seeing any editorials on AJE. The reporting is top-notch, much better than that of RT English (Russia) and NHK English (Japan). AJE reporting on North America has been weak (that’s why news anchor David Marash resigned) but has been improving, and this new market in NYC should motivate increased commitment to US reporting.
