See the variety of DC’s visual art at the Joan Hisaoka Healing Arts Gallery at Smith Farm Center today through Wednesday, August 25, 2010. The free exhibit features work by Washington artists applying for DC Arts Commission fellowships. This is a chance to see the latest painting, prints, photos and drawings by some of our favorites (Rex Weil, Rik Freeman, Roderick Turner, Elaine Langerman, Alec Simpson) as well as emerging artists. Sample works are on view here.

President Obama was in Chicago this week; Mrs. Obama was in Spain. Perhaps the President ate the Spring Pea Bisque at the Graham Elliot restaurant; maybe the Missus had a nice healthy gazpacho in Marbella.
The staff at the Executive Mansion back in Washington has access to Mrs. Obama’s organic vegetable garden. What was the White House Soup of the Day on Thursday? Chili.

A federal judge has ruled that a California ban on same-sex marriage violates the due process and equal protection clauses of the U.S. Constitution. “Proposition 8,” the “California Marriage Protection Act,” had restricted marriages in the state to opposite-sex couples.

August 28th will mark the 47th anniversary of Rev. Martin Luther King’s “March on Washington.” To commemorate this landmark of nonviolence and the martyred moral leader, media demagogue Glenn Beck and the National Rifle Association will throw a party. It will be in the same place as the 1963 march: the Lincoln Memorial, shrine to an American president who was shot to death.
Instead of Dr. King, the mob will hear consummate orator Sarah Palin; instead of singer Marian Anderson, the music of noted patriot and guitarist Ted Nugent. What could be more respectful or fitting?

Texas billionaire Sam Wyly needs to write a sequel to his self-congratulatory memoir 1000 Dollars and an Idea. Mr. Wyly and his brother Charles have been charged with 13 years of securities fraud yielding $550 million in illegal gains. The Wyly brothers stashed their loot offshore in the Cayman Islands and Isle of Man. Now that’s a story.
