The snow has melted, but Washington’s cherry trees are bare – except on public television. WETA is running a program called The Washington Cherry Blossoms: Beauty on the Basin, and sun-washed pink blooms wave across your TV screen, accompanied by inoffensive music.
“Beauty on the Basin” sounds like the brand name of those little soap cakes grandma puts on the sink when you visit. The segments are only about 30 minutes long but seem much longer. The program, which makes curling seem breathtaking, will repeat throughout the month.
