It’s time for the Lucketts Fair in Loudoun County, Virginia (Route 15, eight miles north of Leesburg). Bring the kids to see, taste, hear, and smell what a country fair should be.
The old schoolhouse at Lucketts is renowned for its Bluegrass concert series, and the fair uses the gazebo on the school grounds as a perfect outdoor Bluegrass stage. The Patuxent Partners, the Scott Brannon Band, and the Company Store trade sets on Saturday, with Patent Pending, Flint Hollow, Iron Ridge, and Ernie Bradley and Grassy Ridge on Sunday.
There are additional stages for Rock and Country Music and kids’ stuff, and there are tractor pulls, a playground, farming demonstrations, pie contests, furry and feathered farm critters, crafts, and food. The Lucketts Fair does lack a common feature of other area fairs: obnoxious drunks. No beer is sold or permitted on the grounds.
Eight bucks for adults; kids under 6 free; free parking. Proceeds benefit the Lucketts Community Center and the Lucketts Community Park. More information here. Download the free (if goofy) poster here.
Don’t forget to visit the antiques stores and vendors on the other side of the road (NotionsCapital collected a funky coonhound competition trophy there) and good farm produce stands are nearby.
