The 2008 Smithsonian Folklife Festival begins on the National Mall today. There will be speechifying at 11AM and the festival itself opens at Noon.
The exhibits, music and food featured are from:
The Himalayan nation of Bhutan, “Land of the Thunder Dragon”
The Lone Star State of Texas:
and The Intergalactic Empire of NASA:
The festival runs through July 6th. Here’s the schedule.
Read the program and watch the videos so the schedule and festival will make sense to you. I regret having to write that, but some people treat the event like some kind of freak show. Not you, though, right?
PS: Will there be Astronaut Ice Cream at the NASA exhibit?
