Campaign Staff Pay

Campaign Staff Pay

(Press Club of Cleveland)

Michelle Tsai of Slate asks “How Much Do Campaign Staffers Make?” and answers her own question: $100,000 to $200,000 for top staffers (campaign manager or chief of staff), although Romney’s finance director got $25K per month ($300K annualized), $50,000 to $90,000 for speech writers (but an outside writer can get $15,000 per speech).

Names are named but salaries for advance team, scheduler and coordinator jobs — the grunt work — are omitted, as are fees for consultants like pollsters. Also omitted: the schedule (24/7 through the campaign) travel (constant) benefits (none, but you meet lots of people) — and income between campaigns (zero).
